ANMAR SCALES VEHICLE & CARAVAN WEIGHING

Caravan, Trailer & Vehicle Weighing in Ballarat

Hit the road knowing you’re safe, legal and within your weight ratings.

Drive into our Ballarat workshop and we’ll weigh your caravan, vehicle and trailer onsite. You’ll walk away with a full written report covering GVM, GCM, ATM, GTM, Tow Ball Mass, and every axle weight that matters.

We explain every reading on the report and compare it against your manufacturer’s ratings.

WHY WEIGH YOUR CARAVAN

Safe & Legal

A modern caravan can be hundreds of kilos over its rated weight before you know it. Solar panels, lithium batteries, water tanks, awnings, bikes on the back, the gear you’ve packed for the trip. It adds up quick.

Overloading isn’t just illegal. It changes how your rig brakes, handles, and behaves in a crosswind. Being overweight makes any accident worse and puts more wear on your tow vehicle.

A written weigh report from Anmar Scales Ballarat gives you a documented record of your weights on the day, signed and dated. Keep it for your records and your peace of mind.

ANMAR SCALES WEIGHING PROCESS

Drive In, We Take Care of the Rest

Here’s how a weigh-in works at our Ballarat workshop.

We start by checking the VIN plates on your vehicle and caravan to record your manufacturer’s ratings. Then we weigh your rig hitched, unhitch on the pads, and weigh again. That captures front and rear axle weights, total weights, and how the caravan affects your vehicle’s balance.

Next we move the vehicle forward, level the caravan, and use our tow ball scale to measure the tow ball mass on its own. Every reading goes onto your written report alongside your manufacturer’s ratings. You drive away with the report in hand. The whole process is usually done inside an hour.

QUESTIONS ABOUT CARAVAN WEIGHING

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get my caravan weighed?

Caravan weights creep up over time as you add gear. Solar panels, batteries, water tanks, awnings, bikes, packing for a long trip. Knowing your real weights matters. You stay legal at roadside checks and you tow safer.

What weights will I get in my report?

Every weight that matters. Vehicle front and rear axle weights (hitched and unhitched), total vehicle weight, caravan axle weights, tow ball mass, GTM, ATM, and GCM. Plus your manufacturer’s ratings listed alongside so you can see what’s in range and what isn’t.

Do you fix overweight problems for me?

No. We’re a weighing service, not a compliance fixer. We give you accurate numbers and walk you through what they mean. Reorganising your load, upgrading your suspension, or going back to your dealer for compliance advice is your call.

How long does the weighing process take?

Usually under an hour from when you drive in. The actual weighing is quick. We spend most of the time walking you through every number on your report so you understand exactly what you’re looking at.

Do I need to book ahead?

Yes, ideally. Get in touch through the form below or give us a call to book a time at our Ballarat workshop. Drive-ins are welcome too, but you may have to wait if we’re already weighing another rig.

What's the difference between GTM and ATM?

GTM (Gross Trailer Mass) is your caravan’s weight sitting on its own wheels, with the tow ball mass excluded. ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) is the full caravan weight including the tow ball mass. Your manufacturer rates your caravan against both numbers and we measure against both.

How accurate is the weigh report?

The report is accurate for your vehicle and caravan as they were on the day of weighing. Once you load extra gear, add water, or shift things around, your weights change. We can’t take responsibility for changes after you drive out. We recommend weighing fully loaded with everything you’d normally tow with so the report reflects real touring conditions.
